Malling Forest now open (March/April 2024): perhaps very boggy
We are delighted to report that felling has been completed and the National Park has finally lifted the closure and removed the diversion signs. Walkers can follow a line very close to the original route and it’s fairly obvious on the ground.
We have had one report from a group of walkers that conditions underfoot were a quagmire and they had to turn back: this was mid-April after a period of exceptionally heavy rainfall.
Once the area has dried out and recovered, the NP will be constructing a new path, but meanwhile just follow the directions as in our guidebook and as mapped. The route follows the line as mapped by OS in the featured clip, but of course you should expect minor obstacles underfoot until the new path is constructed.
